Charity of the Year 2019
We were proud to be awarded Charity of the Year 2019 at the Guernsey Community Awards held by the Guernsey Community Foundation. The award was kindly sponsored by State Street. A big congratulations to all the shortlisted nominees and to Bowel Cancer Guernsey and Guernsey Society of Cancer Relief who were also shortlisted in our category.
All the PFS dogs in training are offered regular training sessions with our dedicated trainers. We have a closed Facebook group where members can share successes, ask questions, post videos and watch training videos. This shared platform encourages all our members to work together and it sets high standards.

Shari joined Paws for Support to train her dogs to become therapy dogs. One of which is Jack, who is one of two reading dogs attending Amherst School. Each week in term time, she has a small group of children who individually read to Jack. This is where she see the children's confidence grow and how they relate to Jack and enjoy reading to him. Shari has now joined our training team as an assistant trainer to hopefully encourage more people to also have this worthwhile experience.

Bex joined PFS with Uno, her working black Labrador Retriever and they have been part of the schools dog team. Bex takes Uno to Vale and Castel Primary schools on alternative half terms running an emotional awareness programme for selected students. When working, Uno is a very calm and well regulated dog who is able to support the students to develop skills in recognising their own emotions and ways to handle them. Also within the charity, Bex is responsible for liaising with the school contacts to organise the regular visits from the handlers as well as the annual assemblies.
We welcome all breeds and ages of dogs and they most have completed some form of basic training. It’s never too young to start training and you can teach old dogs new tricks. We run a 7 week training course and would encourage members to come to as many of them as possible. Once training is completed a short test is done and is repeated again every 2 years to maintain our standards and ensuring both dog and handler are still enjoying working together. We run regular new member meetings where questions can be answered prior to starting training. If you are interested in finding out more please get in touch.
