Becoming a member of
Paws For Support

We welcome all breeds and ages of dogs and they most have completed some form of basic training.  It’s never too young to start training and you can teach old dogs new tricks. We run a 7 week training course and would encourage members to come to as many of them as possible. Once training is completed a short test is done and is repeated again every 2 years to maintain our standards and ensuring both dog and handler are still enjoying working together. We run regular new member meetings where questions can be answered prior to starting training. If you are interested in finding out more please get in touch.

Visiting Therapy Dog

We visit many nursing homes, offices and group settings. Our visits usually last for about an hour and consist of a short talk about the charity, several of the members and there dogs showing the skills and tricks the dogs can do and giving plenty of time for everyone to have the opportunity of stroking the dogs and answering any questions about what the charity does. Our Therapy Dogs also go into schools to educate children on behaviour and responsibilities and how to behave around dogs. We also offer the “Reading to Dog Scheme” where they get the opportunity once a week to read one to one with a dog.

Disability Assistance Dog

Once certified, each PFS dog will have been trained and assessed to be able to offer a number of specifically designed roles for their owner with a recognised disability in order to minimise or mitigate their disability (at least 3 assistance tasks per dog).
